When first discussing the differences between 304 stainless steel and 316 steel we must first understand what stainless steel is. Stainless steel is always made using chromium. The minimum amount of chromium used to make stainless steel is 10.5%; it is chromium that makes the steel stainless. Chromium also improves the corrosion resistance by forming a chromium oxide film on the steel. This very thin layer, when placed under the right conditions, can also be self-repairing.

Other elements used to make stainless steel as well, including nickel, nitrogen and molybdenum. Bringing these elements together forms different crystal structures that enable a variety of properties in machining, welding and forming.
There are four major types of stainless steel. The first and most widely used is austenitic It has a nickel content of at least 7%, which makes it very flexible. It is used in a range of houseware products, industrial piping and vessels, constructional structures and architectural facades.

Ferritic stainless steel has similar properties to mild steel, but better corrosion resistance. This type of steel is commonly used in washing machines, boilers and indoor architecture. Martensitic stainless steel is a very hard, strong steel. It contains around 13% chromium and is used to make knives and turbine blades.

Finally, there is also a duplex stainless steel that is a composite of austenitic and ferritic steels. This steel is both strong and flexible. Duplex steels are most commonly used in the paper, pulp and shipbuilding industries. They are also widely used in the petrochemical industry.

Grade 304 is the standard “18/8” stainless; it is the most versatile and most widely used stainless steel, available in a wider range of products including stainless steel tables, cabinets and more , forms and finishes than any other. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. The balanced austenitic structure of Grade 304 enables it to be severely deep drawn without intermediate annealing, which has made this grade dominant in the manufacture of drawn stainless parts such as sinks, hollow-ware and saucepans. Grade 304 is readily brake or roll formed into a variety of components for applications in the industrial, architectural, and transportation fields. Grade 304 also has outstanding welding characteristics. Post-weld annealing is not required when welding thin sections.

Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade, second in importance to 304 amongst the austenitic stainless steels. The molybdenum gives 316 better overall corrosion resistant properties than Grade 304, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics. It is readily brake or roll formed into a variety of parts for applications in the industrial, architectural, and transportation fields. Grade 316 also has outstanding welding characteristics. Post-weld annealing is not required when welding thin sections.

I have used a lot of different cookware over the year including aluminum, corning ware, cast iron, stainless steel, Teflon coated steal, cast iron and enameled cast iron. I ended up throwing all of these pots and pans away when they reached end of life. It too bad I did not discover the benefits of tin lined copper as I could have save a lot of money.

One day I entered a discount store that sold kitchen ware where I saw Mauviel copper pans on display. These were tin lined copper pans and very solidly made. I was impressed with the price as it was not much more than previous cookware purchases that I made. Yet these were beautifully crafted shiny copper pans that were about 1/8 thick with durable cast iron handles. I purchases two saucepans and one saut pan, I couldnt wait to get home and start cooking with them. Since then, I have never purchases any thing but tin lined copper pans as the cooking experience made me a life time customer.

Tin lined cookware is not well known as a non stick product, but it is really the first cookware with a non-stick surface. Tin is an outstanding lining because of its heat conducting properties and food does not stick to it. There is some wrong information about tin lining that it reacts to acidic foods, this is absolutely not true. Many times cooking with tomato sauce without a single issue was enough to prove this to me.

The problem with Teflon coating and anodized aluminum is that it does not last that long and once it not effective, the pan cannot be resurfaced. The pans become worthless after a while. Tin lined products can be resurfaced so the pots and pans will last a long time. Tin lined copper is long lasting and doesnt break up into pieces like Teflon. When cooking with copper you will be extremely impressed with the uniform color of evenly cooked food that tastes better. You will immediately become a better cook when you start using copper.

There are some negatives to using tin lined copper, the tin does where out and will need to be renewed. The average resurfacing cost is less than $100.00 per pan. The tin will melt and form small bubbles if heated above 460 degrees Fahrenheit. However this will not affect the cooking properties so it may not be a big issue. Metal cooking utensils will scratch the surface so need to be careful about the material of the cooking utensils. Also repeated use of harsh cleansers can eventually wear the tin away. Over a longer period of time, the Tin will lose its shine and oxidizes to a gray color.

Console tables are amazing pieces of furniture that add flair to the living room and the foyer when needed. Sometime large rooms can look unfurnished even if all essential furniture items are in place. These include benches, sofas, and chairs. A console table is a nice accessory in such cases and can even hold extra storage space when needed. This is possible when a chest of drawers is added to the existing framework of a console table.

The most beautiful console table is set against a corner usually a far corner in a living room or a bedroom that simply has some extra space available. However you need to be aware of exactly where you will place it. If you are going to put it right in the middle of a living room much like a center table or a coffee table, the console table attains a grotesque look. Placing it against a wall is an ideal scenario.

Homeowners need to be aware of the exact layout of the room they plan to place the console table in. The best scenario is to place the console table against a wall and hang a picture above the space. This will enhance the look of that corner of the room. Additionally a simple arrangement of flowers whether natural or artificial can be placed on the table to add to the looks. Some people prefer to spread a cloth on their table. This arrangement is fine as far as the texture and feel of the cloth matches with the surrounding decor.

In large foyers, console tables can play an important role by filling up unused spaces. Choosing a well-designed table when complemented with accessories to match will make the foyer light up that once looked large, lifeless and empty. Another great location would be right behind the sofa. Oftentimes a sofa and accessories are placed in the middle of the room. While this area appears sufficiently full, the area behind it can appear strangely empty if not filled in by other furniture. It is here that a console table becomes a piece of utility furniture.

Console tables can also fill in spaces in a walk-in closet and form handy pieces to store jewelry and other knick knacks. In long hallways as well, they are great additions to make the space look lived in. Again adding small chests or even flower vases enhances the look of long and empty hallways. If the hallway is narrow a large piece of furniture does look out of place, so when shopping for one be aware of the exact dimensions of your hallways so you do not end up spoiling the space.

Walking into a cold bathroom in the morning might snap you out of your slumber but it certainly wont be a pleasant experience! Unsurprisingly, radiator design has moved on a long way since the times of Victoria and Edward. New technologies and manufacturing methods give you almost limitless choice in bathroom heating appliances. Modern designer bathroom radiators come in all shapes and sizes, to suit your needs and the needs of your bathroom.

There are certain aspects of heating that traditional bathroom radiators are far better at than a heated towel rail. A radiator will almost certainly have a significantly greater heat output than a towel rail, which is also likely to have damp towels sitting on it, reducing the heat circulated around the room even more.

A bathroom radiator has been designed to heat up the room; a heated towel rail has been designed to heat up towels. If you can allow a heated towel rail to carry out the task it was designed for, it will naturally be more efficient than asking the towel rail to generate enough heat for both the towels hanging on it and the room in which it sits. Even if this is possible, it would heat the rail to a dangerous level such that a slight brush of bare skin against it would result in a painful burn.

Of course theres nothing to stop you installing both a heated towel rail and a traditional bathroom radiator in the same room. That way you get the best of both worlds: warm fluffy towels and a beautifully heated bathroom. This is the perfect solution for homes where the bathroom is large enough to need double the heat output.
